Ever feel left out of the party?

When I taught second grade, I didn’t let my kids say one phrase in particular.  “It’s not fair.”  Well, today, I’m saying it.  It’s not fair.  It’s SO not fair.  Why?  Read this  –  https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/kinder-canada-unwraps-817-smiles-171800558.html

If you don’t want to read it, let me sum up.  Kinder® Masterbrand at Ferrero Canada hosted an event to break a Guinness World Record® of people unwrapping candy simultaneously.  817 parents and children showed up.  No one died.  No one even choked a little tiny bit.  No paramedics stood by, gurney ready, ambulance idling, no anxious looks.  Just smiles.

Do you know what the Kinder rep said?  “When a parent gives a KINDER® SURPRISE® egg to their child, we hope a moment of joy and a smile will come from unwrapping the chocolate, the surprise inside and a toy for further play time together,” says Price. “We were thrilled to have the support of Torontonians at the CNE and Canadians online across the country and we hope that every interaction with KINDER® keeps Canadians smiling.”

Oh, the shame.  The shame in us not being able to enjoy a Kinder Egg with our children.  I don’t know if you saw it, but this past week a 9-year-old little girl in the US accidentally killed her gun instructor with an Uzi.  I was going to link an article but our press is so bias on either side of the gun debate that I don’t dare choose one and then have to deal with the rants of folks who don’t agree with the viewpoint.

I feel for the families and, especially, the little girl.  I have a nine-year-old daughter.  She’s an adorable little cutie.  Really.  If you met her, you’d want to squish her to pieces.  She’s eaten many Kinder Eggs…before we moved back to the States…and not one time did I feel her life was in danger.  Not once.  If anything, I felt what the rep above said.  It was a joy to watch her face as she unwrapped the egg, inhaled the chocolate (and I mean inhaled – that kid could break a record in speed of eating the chocolate egg!) and then opening the capsule to expose the cool toy.  She has never fired a gun.  She’s never held a gun.  This isn’t a commentary on the gun debate.  I’m staying out of that on here.  She’s not interested in guns.  She’s into Barbies, baby dolls, drawing, and clothes (heaven help me).

No matter what side of the debate you are on, you have to admit it is completely ridiculous that I can buy a gun and put it in her hands.  I can take her to a shooting range and hire an instructor to teach her…or teach her myself…how to shoot a gun.  Or an Uzi.  However, I cannot buy her a Kinder Egg.  I can’t hire someone to instruct her on opening the capsule without dying.  The ban is embarrassing, ridiculous, and infuriating.

Please, please, please remember that the ban is NOT because the eggs are unsafe.  That’s the garbage they spew when you inquire the giant powers in charge.  The ban is  enforced because the Mars company spends millions lining pockets.  They are completely freaked out by the popularity of the Egg.  (1.5 billion sold a year!)  They know that they’d have major competition.  Their money blocking is un-American on so many levels.  We were built on competition.  This is how a good, strong economy is made – healthy competition.  If your product isn’t up to snuff, fix it or move on.  And the punks accepting the money?  Really?  That’s how we roll now?  We vote based on who pays us the most?  {oh, I could so go on and on about THAT subject alone}

We might need to start a campaign targeting Mars.  Letters, emails, phone calls, etc…  Right now I just want to fly up to Canada and join in the happiness.  It’s just not fair.
